The Alpha Pulse is a new installation put on by Art Basel Hong Kong and designed by Carsten Nicolai. Lit like a Christmas tree, the skyscraper looms high up over the harbour in Kowloon, Hong Kong. Instead of creating a whole new building for this effect, the artist used The International Commerce Centre as a canvas and generated light across its surface.
The experiment is being done to test people's reactions to the installation, with the hopes that it will improve city-goer's mood and happiness levels. The Alpha Pulse also comes with an app so users can listen to the accompanying audio, which blends perfectly with the pulsating, hypnotic qualities engulfing the International Commerce Centre.
