The 'Almost Human' Droid Responded to Social Media Requests
Laura McQuarrie — May 12, 2014 — Tech
To kick off the launch of the Almost Human TV show on FOX in the UK, a holographic android was set up on a stage to perform audience requests that came in the form of tweets.
The stunt was set up in a shop window with instructions on how to interact with the droid, which attracted a lot of attention. Tweeting to @droiddothis would have the "almost human" droid break dance, do the funky chicken or roar like a tiger.
Unfortunately, as much as the future of interactive human-droids is near, it's not quite as advanced as what you might see on the Almost Human show. The Joint agency stunt actually involved an actor that was performing these actions, which was then live edited and projected onto a mesh to give the illusion of a hologram. Either way, it was still a winning way to grab people's attention.
