Verizon announced that its 5G phones will come with Sanpchat pre-loaded. Having a large section of phones come pre-loaded with Snapchat will drastically improve the social media platform's reach. The agreement comes as an aspect of the 'official 5G innovation' alliance that both companies agreed to. As part of the agreement, Snapchat will develop new AR features for Verizon's 5G Labs. Additionally, Verizon will be able to access premium sponsorship locations on the Snapchat platform.
The agreement appears to be mutually beneficial for both organizations. For Snapchat the deal allows it to reach more users as its social network will be on all of Verizon's 5G phones, and for Verizon the deal allows it to access AR features and sponsorship placements.
In the future, it may be possible for other social media platforms to partner with phone companies to form similar partnerships.
