Verizon has brought 5G coverage capabilities to 13 different NFL stadiums before the start of the season. The company also has plans in place to expand the 5G coverage to other NFL stadiums throughout the season. Verizon has indicated that it wants football fans to be able to use the 5G network at games.
The 5G stadiums are in part possible to mmWave technology, which is unable to go through concrete and has a limited range. This is one of the reasons the 5G connection was built into open-air stadiums. This is because small cells can be built to cover the stadium.
Some of the most iconic NFL stadiums have been included in the 5G rollout. This includes Soldier Field, Empower Field at Mile High, CenturyLink Feild, Gillette Stadium, and MetLife Stadium.
