This Student-Designed 3D-Printed Vehicle Competed at the Shell Eco-Marathon
Laura McQuarrie — July 8, 2016 — Autos
This impressive 3D-printed vehicle design was created by a group of students in order to compete in the Shell Eco-Marathon, which challenges designers to create a car that can travel the greatest distance on just a single liter of gas.
'Venture 8' was slotted into the urban concept category, which requires the design to look like a roadworthy vehicle, complete with four wheels, a windshield wiper and working lights.
The Venture 8 was created from more than 150 independent pieces, some of which are 3D-printed. One of the most unique features of the vehicle design is that its carbon fiber chassis can be driven without the body. This leaves room to explore options for other custom vehicle parts to be added to the chassis as they are needed.
