MEAN (Middle East Architecture Network commissioned a 3D-printed chair and Riyad Joucka delivered a unique design in the form of Mawj, a chair that gets its name from the Arabic word for "wave." Inspired by the Arabian Sea, the 3D-printed furniture piece is sculptural and created with 6mm plastic polymers and a continuous form. This aspect of the design made with 3D printing is evident in the way that one small, single ripple echoes to form many others that form a pattern large enough to envelop the rest of the seating solution.
Deceptively simple, the chair is made with minimal materials yet is packed with structural strength, as well as features for comfort and ergonomics.
