China plans to install a '3D Express Coach' pilot project in Beijing. The huge car-straddling buses are intended to provide a cheaper, greener and faster commute in a city plagued by traffic jams, noise and air pollution.
The 3D Express Coach project is proposed by Shenzhen Hashi Future Parking Equipment Co., Ltd. The buses allow passengers to board on the upper level, while allowing cars to continue to use the 'straddlesphere' roadway beneath. Electricity and solar energy fuel the buses, which can travel at 36 mph while carrying 1,200 to 1,400 passengers.
