Heineken has launched its global campaign, '0.0 Reasons Needed,' to challenge the social stigma surrounding the choice of non-alcoholic beverages. The campaign advocates for "the freedom to choose Heineken 0.0, the brand’s non-alcoholic beer, without requiring a justification." First introduced in 2017, Heineken 0.0 encourages consumers to embrace alcohol-free alternatives.
To support the campaign, three YouTube videos were released ahead of 'Dry January.' One video, titled 'On a diet?' depicts a woman at a barbecue who is mistakenly assumed to be on a diet due to her non-alcoholic beer; she then enjoys a plate of ribs, reinforcing the idea that choosing Heineken 0.0 does not need an explanation. Another video illustrates a group of coworkers cheekily enjoying a game of soccer with their non-alcoholic Heineken beers—creating group acceptance.
The campaign is backed by research conducted in partnership with Professor Charles Spence of the University of Oxford. The study reveals that "social pressures surrounding non-alcoholic beverage choices are particularly felt by Gen-Z, with 21% concealing their choices due to judgment."
