This Fashion Designer has a Style All Her Own
Josh Triantafilou — June 12, 2012 — Fashion
Mary Katrantzou looks are never boring. While many designers have flocked to reserved sensibilities like Old Hollywood in recent years, Katrantzou maintains an evocative, vibrant aesthetic all her own.
The Greek, London-based fashion designer incorporates many elements into her work. From floral patterns to her signature use of trompe-l'oeil, there is a pervasively psychedelic aspect to her aesthetic. Her designs at once trick and delight the eyes with playful optical illusions that never overstate themselves, but are instead seamlessly woven into an elegant and coherent look.
Katrantzou holds both a bachelor and a master's degree from Central Saint Martins College of Art and Design, a constituent college of the University of the Arts London. After her education, she remained principally in London, creating bold, but elegant high-end fashion. Her collections are now sold in more than 60 shops world wide.
