From Grass-Covered Outlets to Green-Bristled ACs
Jen Chae — August 7, 2013 — Art & Design
These grass-covered creations infuse a bit of nature into any household. Furnishings and even appliances are disguising themselves in bushy green coating to appear outdoorsy; the resulting effect is visually peculiar and sometimes ironic.
Since apartment units are getting less spacious and green especially in urban areas, indoor furnishing likes chairs, desktop organizers, toothbrush holders and lamp fixtures are adorned with plants.
But grass isn't only incorporated in household items for the appeal of it; plant-resembling designs serve as environmentally friendly reminders as well. For the aspiring environmentalist, Andrew Harmon designed a grassy cover plate for light switches and outlets. Called the Growth Plate, this design reminds people to flick off and plug out to save energy.
