From Torturous Toe Shoes to Kung Fu Ballerinas
Marissa Brassfield — July 26, 2009 — Art & Design
When you envision ballet, you probably think of long, lean ballerinas in elegant tutus and perhaps “Swan Lake.” The ballet innovations below, however, don’t fit that mold one bit.
You’ll read about torturous toe shoes, Russian ballet couture, alternative lifestyle ballet, and even ballet on Broadway.
Implications - Ballet is the most graceful of all dance forms; naturally, it is an art that fascinates many. However, at the same time, ballet can be anything but soft. Highlighting the "badass" elements of ballet gives consumers something with which they can identify. We've all experienced pain and harshness before, and seeing it associated with something as lovely as ballet bridges the gap between fantasy and reality.
