From Pyramid Stools to Crystal Seats
Marissa Brassfield — November 17, 2008 — Art & Design
I’d like to preface my introduction to this cluster with the disclaimer that I fully appreciate every one of the art stools, seats and chairs featured below. There are even several I’d love to own. That said, as someone whose workweek involves a lot of sitting, the 25 pieces of art seating in this cluster are downright murderous.
From wooden chairs that cradle a man’s jewels to chairs made from recycled crosswalk traffic lights, these pieces of furniture are more for showing off than sitting in. You won’t find a nap-worthy La-Z-Boy recliner or snooze-inducing chaise lounge in this set.
Instead, you’ll find chairs inspired by bathtubs, made from recycled industrial parts and designed after computer keys. There are stools shaped like apples--with stems intact--and made from recycled skateboard decks. While all of the seating in this cluster is beautiful, none of it looks comfortable.
