Upcycled Polystyrene Furniture

Designer Andreu Carulla Partners with a Zero-Waste Restaurant

Spanish designer Andreu Carulla teams up with zero-waste restaurant El Celler de Can Roca to develop ecologically conscious hexagonal stools. The Catalan-based creative uses polystyrene — a material that eateries utilize for the transportation and storage of food, as the main component for the geometry-inspired pieces. From lilac and mint green to charcoal grey, the collaborators challenged themselves to create something agreeable and aesthetically pleasing with one of the most difficult materials to recycle.

This is a new development for El Celler de Can Roca's zero-waste restaurant policy, which carries the name of Roca Recicla and previously dealt with small-scale recycling. "Named as one of the top 10 eateries in the world," the dining establishment truly leads by example in the drive for sustainability.
