Seoul-based artist Yunshik Shim has designed a geometric chair made of wood and metal. The chair is named Wind Memory and seeks to promote harmony and understanding between the Eastern and Western worlds.
The Wind Memory chair is made of solid wood and brass. The two contrasting materials speak to the differences between the East and the West, however, they are both materials found on Earth and therefore share similar properties. Yunshik Shim explains that there may be cultural differences between the East and West, but there are no differences between races and people.
The artist began by sketching the chair and then used 3D modeling technology to properly scale the design. The materials were then cut, openwork was applied, and welding and folding machines were used to create the distinct folds and grooves.
