Kaleidoscopic Traffic Sign Art

South African Artist r1 Uses Yield Signs to Beautify the Streets

South African artist r1 decided to use yield signs to beautify urban streets of Johannesburg by creating a geometrically arranged installation on the brick walls of a lonely alleyway.

The artist used 100 yield signs and turned them into a red and white kaleidoscope of symbols. A pole is the centerpiece of the work and the triangles are fanned out around it. Some signs are overlapped to create interesting angles and shapes.

The project was commissioned by the Johannesburg development agency that hopes to improve the urban streets. The artwork will add character and charm to a place that no one would normally notice. This geometric kaleidoscope will hopefully invite more people to yield to others in this busy urban city.
