Self-Assembling Lamps

Researchers at the Wyss Institute of Harvard Develop a 3D Illuminator

Researchers at the Wyss Institute of Harvard have come up with a lamp that can assemble itself, and function perfectly well. The design isn't much to look at, but it's still a feat to come up with a piece of furniture that could put IKEA out of business.

The lamp is made from 3D printed materials, which seems to be developing into more and more of a common act these days. In just a short span of time, the lamp can pop up without human intervention. Apparently the lamp is controlled by heat too, meaning that if the temperature rises, the box illuminator will start folding right in front of onlookers.

While this prototype is small with not that much power, it still provides a basis of what can be developed for furniture in the future. Photo Credits: designboom, wyss.harvard.edu
