Croatian architect student Andrija Vecenaj embraces traditional basket weaving techniques in his willow basket woven chairs.
Taking design inspiration from a bird's nest, these beautifully handwoven chairs look as if they're made from blades of dry wheat. Andrija Vecenaj started by making miniature models out of dried sorghum plants for his university thesis. Each piece of sorghum is beautifully woven, braided and intertwined to form the seat of the chair. Then, the left over sections are left hanging exposed and beautifully dishevelled to copy the unkempt and organic look of a bird's nest.
Andrija Vecenaj plans to make these lovely natural woven chairs in life-size version soon out of willow instead of sorghum. These delicately woven chairs would make an artistically beautiful addition to any indoor or outdoor living area. Photo Credits: designboom, behance.net
