Modern Woven Chairs

This Chair Was Created with Digital Fabrication and Traditional Craftmanship

This woven chair was designed by London designer Christopher Jenner and weaver Felicity Irons -- collaborating to combine traditional techniques with modern ones.

The chair was made with materials such as English oak harvested from the banks of a river, making it environmentally friendly. During its construction process, the designers did not use any chemicals and the materials were joined through "a series of mechanical oak dowels. Entitled 'The Rush Chair,' it was designed to investigate traditional English crafts and how these techniques can be re-interpreted with modern technology.

This chair's classic design is coupled with its potential modern applications of taking traditional crafting techniques and using them to inspire technology that creates similar designs more quickly and efficiently.
