Most work computer programs can be altered to produce certain results, but there are some programs that have pre-determined guidelines that appear to only have a particular set of functions. Toronto-based accountant Cary Walkin decided to use Microsoft’s Excel spreadsheet program to create a video game.
Arena.Xlsm is a role playing game that’s played using Microsoft Excel. Just like any RPG title, the game has bosses that you have to defeat to progress to the next stage, a character-levelling system, 31 spells that vary the user's gaming experience, and an in-depth story line with four different endings to the game depending on your game play. The only downside to this game is that it only works on PC versions of Microsoft Excel. Walkin created the game over five months while working on his MBA.
