Amazing Timber Textiles

Wooden Mesh Turns Lumber into a Lovely Cloth-Like Material

Rigidity is one of the qualities of wood that makes it so useful; however, it can be appreciated for other practical and beautiful aspects still, should it take a different form. Wooden Mesh is a new composite material that was developed by Diego Vencato with Albeflex's Alberto Martinuzzo. It was made by cutting up timber panels into small polygonal tiles and arranging them in geoform patterns.

All sorts of wooden sheets can be manipulated this way and fastened to a "flexible support," also known as fabric. Even with the separate pieces positioned nice and close together, their parametric cut lines make the Wooden Mesh foldable and furlable so that the product could be used for blankets, curtains and other diverse purposes.
