The Whoop Strap is a wearable for high-performing athletes that helps them to track both their performance and get a better understanding of the recovery times that they need to get back to full strength. In order to prove their concept, the Whoop Strap was used by professional baseball players as part of a study on its efficacy.
After partnering with the MLB, Whoop gave its wearable wristband to 230 minor leaguers from nine different MLB organizations. These players wore the strap from June to November -- through virtually their entire season. According to data released by Whoop and the MLB, the straps recorded 3,321 workouts, 4,407 sleep cycles, and over 350 million heartbeats.
Some of the studies conclusions were startling, such as the observance that starting pitchers need only three full days of recovery, whereas conventional wisdom gives them four days.
