Waterlicht by Studio Roosegaarde Resembles a Stunning Virtual Flood

Waterlicht by Studio Roosegaarde is a magnificent light installation by the Dutch design firm located above a flood control channel of River IJsse. The stunning light installation reaches 1.6 hectares and resembles the aurora borealis natural phenomenon.

Waterlicht by Studio Roosegaarde was created in collaboration with a Dutch water board, which will have staff present at the installation to educate patrons, as a means to raising awareness around the fact that most of the Netherlands is below sea level. As patrons walk through the surreal and sprawling "virtual flood," they feel as if they are submerged under water.

Waterlicht will be taking place at the IJsse Westervoort location between February 28 and March 1, 2015.

Using digital technology to create an experience that is grounded in nature is a unique way of creating a discussion around the relationship between human beings and their environments.
