This Water Pouch Helps Maintain a Barrier Between Liquid and Contaminants

Industrial design students Chloe Louisin and Nadine Nielsen have created an innovative water pouch designed to help refugees keep drinking water clean.

The Wat'bag is a sterile plastic pouch that comes with its own neck and cap that can easily fit inside of a gasoline jerry can. This specific container was chosen because in many developing countries, a jerry can is the most inexpensive and readily available container. Unfortunately, many of these jerry cans previously held gasoline containing chemicals and contaminants that can seep into water.

The water pouch acts like an accordion and is able to expand to fit approximately 25 liters of liquid at any given time, and acts as a barrier to help keep drinking water sterile while being stored and transported.
