London studio Sam Tisdall Architects integrated a Victorian interior into the modern 'Dorset Road' residence by installing entwined ceiling struts.
The house attaches to a Victorian terrace, meaning that the architects had to follow strict regulations ensuring the exterior matched the terrace and surrounding architecture. Though they could have gone in a super-modern direction with the interior, Sam Tisball Architects simply decided to continue the theme, creating harmony inside and out. The cottage aesthetic allows the home to blend both traditional and modern elements in a way that seems effortless. Besides the criss-cross ceiling, the house features a reclaimed oak beam.
To optimize for space, the storage components of the home were recessed into the walls of the kitchen and dining area.
