TeamGroup launched a vapor chamber cooling system for use on its future solid-state drives (SSDs). Vapor chamber cooling works by attaching a heatsink to the device in need of cooling, then running this heatsink along a vapor chamber filled with liquid. The liquid then absorbs the heat from the device and rapidly dissipates this heat vertically away from the device, resulting in colder clock temperatures. It is important to note that vapor chamber cooling is not the same as liquid cooling, as vapor chambers are passive solutions.
The first series of vapor chamber SSD coolers from TeamGroup will be used on the company's 'N74V-M80' series of generation five SSDs. These storage devices boast read speeds of up to 3,400 mb/s and write speeds of 2,500 mb/s consistently. While this is the first series of SSDs to utilize the company's vapor chamber cooling solution, it will not be the last, as more powerful next-gen SSDs require dedicated cooling solutions to offset rising operating temperatures.
