Vacuum-Like River Cleaners

Dyson Hopes to Introduce Vacuum Cleaning Technology to Boats

Dyson is known as one of the frontrunners when it comes to innovative vacuum cleaning technology, but it's now looking to clean more than just carpets. Now, James Dyson is proposing that the same kind of technology that's used in its signature vacuum be used in boats, to clean up trash and other debris that shouldn't be in the water.

The concept is being called the M.V. Recyclone and Dyson first described and illustrated the idea to TIME about a month ago. Although there's a lot of water to clean, the concept could have a huge impact on the numbers of animals that die from eating plastic, since about 250,000 of the baby albatross birds that are born each year end up dying from having their parents feed them what they think is food.
