The collection of useless objects that are being exhibited at the Spazio Libero art gallery during the Artissima art fair in Turin, Italy, begs the question, "What’s the point?"
The oddball exhibition by JVLT is titled ‘UseLess is More’ and illustrates "adesign," a principle coined by its creators. "If design produces function, the Adesign produces Dis/function, and so now all my work is concentrated to design [an] object near Art where the sense is the real aim of the object," says JVLT’s Andrea Maragno.
Each of the eight objects in the exhibition is presented without its crucial components. For example, the chair that leads off the gallery has no seat and no back. And the lamp in the third image is missing both a bulb and a shade.
These useless objects celebrate dysfunction and imperfection while simultaneously challenging our thoughts about the traditional purpose of these objects.
