An urban shopping center in the French city of Lyon is undergoing a makeover by Rotterdam-based architectural firm MVRDV. The revamp seeks to create a more accessible layout for the "introverted complex" and to inject some natural motives into the site. In order to optimize light, nature and an open concept space, MVRDV drafted the proposal with co-architects SUD. The plan is to restructure the interior program of the urban shopping center and to bring about a contemporary update to the existing facade through an MVRDV staple semi-transparent glass.
In addition, Lyon Part-dieu will feature a roof garden that will be accessible to the public and that will allow a few moments of fresh air and rest after a long day of shopping.
