Songwon Art Space by Mass Studios is one of the most interesting underground buildings in Buk-Chon, South Korea. The reason for its vertically spread layout is due to restrictions the project has faced in terms of space. The creators didn't want to compromise the features of the building and decided to spread out in a different way. The very angular triangle-shaped building features its restaurant and event spaces upstairs and most of their art space underground.
An interesting aspect of this building is the lighting. The two distinct floors deal with the lighting conditions differently. While the main floor mostly uses natural lighting, the underground is enhanced by artificial lighting along with a triangular skylight that also dramatizes the entrance. Resourcefulness has officially been redefined.
