Helsinki-based studio Sanaksenaho Architects designed the 'Villa Musu,' a two-storey lakeside house located in a pine forest in rural Finland.
The villa was specially designed to blend with its surroundings, so it features timber slats that have been painted black. The uneven slats are intended to "reference the verticality of the surrounding pines." The home's external structure creates a fluid, uninterrupted curved shape, which works well with the rounded roof. The gentle silhouettes are unobtrusive towards the natural landscape of the site. Much like the home's timber slats were designed in reference to the pine trees, the roof draws its inspiration from the veins of a tree leaf.
To reduce impact on the environment, the architects elevated the house, creating a veranda that allows visitors a better place to view the lake and forest.
