Mario Tsai's latest project is his work for Grado called the 'Two Halves Mirror.' It is a decorative piece that explores the dimensions of space through the change of lighting and shadows. Mounted to a wall, the Two Halves mirror branches off in a bent approach to become a three-dimensional piece. Held by two bars, the oval frame embraces the mirror between, pushing the mirror out from the wall.
The Two Halves Mirror is designed to also function as a shelf and as a hanging area for umbrellas, scarves or hangers. The shelf is made from grid-detailed steel and the bent-extension serves as a place to hang items. Mario Tsai plays with lighting and shadows with this multi-functional piece. Based upon where the light hits, it can alter the form and give illusions of different dimensions to the mirror.
