Eindhoven-based designer Lucas Muñoz designed the unique Tubular chair by merging unconventional materials—he made use of industrial steel ventilation pipes, as well as copper to craft a chunky chair. Muñoz explores the structural capabilities that industrial pieces have to offer and gives them the chance to function in a domestic setting.
The Tubular chair is made from a galvanised steel pipe and it also surrounds the elbow connectors. The copper sheets from metal junkyards coat smoothly around the seat component. The metal chair first made its debut at the Collectible design fair, and at the Hardcore exhibition under the Hyper Ordinary topic due to its unconventional construction. The copper plate is curved by hand in order to mould correctly onto the specific pipes. To hold it all in place, standard aluminium rivets are used.
