The Trust Project is a media company that categorizes news and media outlets based on the reliability of the reported information, awarding 'Trust Marks' to sources that are consistently reliable. In 2022, the company has since added 27 new outlets to its list of Trust Marked sources. It believes that these companies not only report largely unbiased information, but also take ownership of faults, and actively strive for honesty and inclusion company-wide.

Notable sources that have recently received Trust Marks include independent and alternative sources. These outlets commonly report on underrepresented groups, communities, or opinions, while also offering this information in a fact-based, unbiased manner. On top of this, the Trust Project rewards smaller journalistic bodies equal to large, century-old bodies, upholding both entities to the same standards. This means a site with a Trust Mark is highly likely to be trustworthy on the majority of posts.

One of the largest contributing factors to the persistent viewership of an online publication is trust. If a source is found to be harshly biased or untrustworthy a number of times, its viewership will slant toward one political affiliation and it will be disregarded in a public, academic sense. This is what the Trust Project hopes to alleviate by rewarding media outlets with integrity.
