Tokujin Yoshioka is a Japanese designer that has put together a series of transparent mannequins that are made using tiered levels of laser-cut acrylic plastic. The plastic is cut into discs that are stacked to recreate a three dimensional body and be used in fashion designer Issey Miyake's Toyko exhibition entitled, The Work of Miyake Issey.
The transparent mannequins bring an element of futurism to the Issey's garments, which focus on styles pulled from the 80s. The cutting edge shapes and forms of the mannequins paired with the vintage styles offers an intriguing juxtaposition of eras. The lack of color to the mannequins also brings more focus onto the clothing as the viewer's gaze moves through the plastic bodies to the solid garments. Each mannequin is made using 365 tiers of plastic that are stacked in both horizontal and vertical layers to recreate the female form.
