Although pennies are often considered worthless, the pennies in the Tondi Observations art series are far from that. Reclaiming the worth of these copper coins, artist Jacqueline Lou Skaggs has decorated a handful of them with striking oil paintings.
Comprised of 12 paintings, the Tondi Observations art series revolves around everything from scenes of haystacks to children portraits. Although each coin was supposed to be put back into the monetary world, to the delight of whoever ended up finding them, they became too coveted and now hang on the walls of galleries. Skaggs poetically observes, "Paid tribute no less on the face of discarded coins these iconic images transcend the coins value while defacing it."
