Trader Joe's is expanding its lineup of Asian-inspired dishes with the debut of a new Tofu Sheets product.
Despite the name, the new Tofu Sheets are not what most people might expect. Instead of soft and squishy tofu, the sheets are actually made from the delicate "tofu skin" that forms atop soy milk when it's heated on a stovetop – a byproduct that's known as yuba. Yuba is very mild, which makes it a great addition to everything from curries and stir-fries.
Trader Joe's own yuba, or Tofu Sheets as the brand is calling it, are made by a supplier in Malaysia who freezes the yuba into convenient sheets. To prepare the tofu, all you need to do is cut the corner of the pouch and then heat it in the microwave.
