The Birds of America book sold Tuesday at a Sotheby’s auction for $11.5 million dollars.Ten years ago the book made headlines when it sold for a mere $8.8 already making it the then most expensive book.
Word has it that the lucky gentleman outbid everyone else via telephone. The book is not only expensive, but also massive as it is more than three feet by two feet in diameter. It’s from the 19th century and is a culmination of 12 years worth of work which includes 1,000 life-sized illustrations of 500 different breeds.
To think someone would spend this amount of money a book in very interesting. Is it a lover of birds or is the Birds of America book solely looked at as an investment with the potential for impending record breaking?
