Allstate Insurance Company of Canada launched a new public awareness campaign named 'The Selfie Effect.' As the summer season approaches and many Canadians finalize plans for summer vacations, Allstate is reminding Canadians that social media perception is important while away from one's home. A survey from The Léger, a Canadian market analytics company, found that nearly two-thirds of Canadians post travel plans prior to even traveling.
While this seems like an innocent habit, Allstate is reminding Canadians to wait until after traveling to post information about the trip online, as this information can lead to home break-ins and robberies. In order to help with the process, Allstate offered several tips on how to ensure online safety.
These tips include only telling people that are close, trustworthy friends about vacation plans in advance, ensuring the privacy settings on social media platforms are set properly, removing geotags from photos, and reminding people to remove information that may reveal home addresses or crucial personal information before posting a photo.
