Columbia University engineering students were given 18 sheets of plywood, 119 sections, 928 pieces and $1000 to complete this innovative malleable piece of futuristic furniture entitled the Polymorphic.
Constructed employing a pivot-and-bold system, the creative seating is designed to move and adjust to changes in outside pressure. The Polymorphic is a safe form of seating that works overtime to accommodate as many guests as possible, while still creating a place to rest your bones in the utmost comfort.
Created as part of a graduate project, the students manifesto illustrates the Polymorphic was also manufactured for much nobler reasons. The students stated that the piece exists as a "test of the limits and capabilities of digital fabrication," and plays a part in the advancement of "architectural and industrial design practices."
This sinuous lounger is as beautiful as it is inviting. Hopefully in the not too distant future everyone will have the chance to test sit the Polymorphic.
