From Amputee To Mermaid

A Tale Of A Tail

Double-amputee, and Aukland swimmer, Nadya Vessey, is going to become a real-life mermaid with the help of Weta. The organization implements creative Hollywood effects to help the world, and for Vessey, that means contructing a mermaid tail to allow her to swim faster and easier.

"Vessey was born with a condition that meant her legs would never develop properly, but began swimming after she had her first leg amputated at seven," Spluch reported. "Despite having her other leg amputated at 16, she swam competitively in high school and now swims as often as she can.
