Architecture firm SC3 works together with developer Prince Concepts to create the Canopy, which is a range of duplex buildings in Detroit that is topped off by rooftop murals, gardens, and over 100 trees. The design project transforms what was once an abandoned lot and now stands as a residential complex comprised of five buildings designed in various size and shapes -- each building is a duplex with two units.
The development has a range of studios and units that have either one to two bedrooms and the design is meant to enhance "the tactile quality of the living experience." The founder of EC3, Edwin Chan notes, "Our team approached this as a cultural project to emphasize public place-making and using the architecture to provide a context for the landscape."
