The Candela installation -- a spinning, illuminated disk -- is currently on display at the V&A museum during this year's London Design Festival.
The installation was the product of collaboration between graphic designer Michael Montgomery, product designer Felix de Pass and ceramist Ian McIntyre. The creatives were tasked by Italian watch company Officine Panerari to create the installation.
The motor-powered disk is elevated off the ground, constantly rotating clockwise. More than 700 LED lights cause the disk's surface, which is made from superluminova, to become luminescent. The lights turn on and off randomly, allowing different patterns to form across the disk. The location itself enhances the incandescent quality of the Candela, as the tapestry gallery is one of the darkest spaces in the entire museum.
