The Tesbih Lamp by Bora CAKILKAYA is Inspired by Rosaries

The Tesbih Lamp may seem like a minimalist modern lamp save for the string of beads wrapped around its stand, but it has a religious undertone that will speak to many. The string of beads is inspired by rosaries, the first of which were found in India to count prayers. Moving from there to the Middle East and then Europe, it is not surprising that rosaries have since moved into other realms to inspire objects such as the Tesbih Lamp.

Designed by Istanbul-based Bora CAKILKAYA, the Tesbih Lamp is also influenced by the Janissary infantry units forming the Ottoman Sultan's household troops and bodyguards between 1363 and 1826. The lampshade represents their hat while the slim stand is their body.
