The Swish app, developed by Toronto-based Onyx Motion, is set to change the way basketball players fine-tune their shooting game. This app uses a plethora of wearable sensors to provide incredibly detailed real-time feedback -- on everything from speed, elbow angle and consistency -- on a smartwatch screen.
All users have to do is line up their shot and start shooting, and the app offers real-time tips every time they miss. The app may suggest that you bend your knees to generate more power from your lower body, or check your follow-through to avoid over-shooting. Swish even customizes the tone of instruction to suit your personality, creates customized coaching plans and allows you to compare your progress with your friends'.
Everything about this app is designed to make it incredibly easy to use, whether it's the elegant and simple interface or the fact that it is compatible with any wearable hardware, and isn't solely usable with Android or Apple Watch alone for example. The app also utilizes machine learning technology to get better each time, improving its own performance and ensuring that users never get complacent.
Swish is currently the subject of an Indiegogo campaign. A pledge of $5 will get you beta access to the Swish App for Android Wear or Apple Watch, while $2,000 will secure early access to the app and a one-on-one training session with former NBA star Ben Gordon.
With its unique combination of real-time feedback, applicable insights and customizable plans, the Swish app is set to steepen basketball players' development trajectories.
