It’s pretty hard to ignore the elephant in the room when it’s balancing on someone’s back! ‘Pentateuque’ is a comically surreal sculpture by French artist, Fabien Mérelle which features a likeness of the artist huffing and puffing as he balances an elephant on his back. Mérelle has used his tounge in cheek humor to whimsically represent the idea of carrying the weight of the world on one’s shoulders. The piece is a re-interpretation of one of the artists childhood drawings.
Visitors to the art stage Singapore exhibition, at the marina bay sands will certainly be taken by surprise by this colossal and life-like optical illusion. Fabien Mérelle is known for his work which often evokes child like imagery and fairytales in a light-hearted manner.
