The average size of a surfboard makes the water sport inaccessible for some, simply because the logistics of carrying around a surf board design of that size is just plain inconvenient. But industrial design student Max Robotham wasn't about to let surfboard design conventions of the past stand between him and the waves.
With the aid of 3D printing technology, Robotham was able to craft an amazing surfboard that's like a giant puzzle. The board is constructed from 48 separate puzzle-like pieces, forming a board that stands about six feet tall.
Two kinds of joints are used to keep all the separate pieces in place, including pieces that interlock, as well as a high tensile steel cable that strings through the edges of the board for maximum support. Since the board can be easily dismantled away from the sea, transporting a long, heavy board is no longer an obstacle.
