YSG Adds a Vintage Touch to the Superfreak Cafe in Sydney

Australian design studio YSG has unveiled the new design of the Superfreak cafe in Sydney. The space is defined by its carpet-lined seating and cork flooring for a warm aesthetic further enhanced by the highly glossy green paint in the space. The cafe is nestled in the Marrickille suburbs and was once an ice cream factory turned pilates studio -- this is at the rear and Superfreak cafe is at the street front.

The director of YSG, Yasmine Saleh Ghoniem shares the design process behind the project with Dezeen, stating "Our clients wanted a space where locals felt like they could hang out. Also, they wanted to welcome pilates students to stretch out comfortably post-class. A key component was to build sunken lounge-like seating via banquettes that created a cosy enclosure."
Trend Themes
1. Vintage-inspired Interiors - The use of 70s-style design elements can offer customers a nostalgic experience that differentiates the cafe from more contemporary settings.
2. Multifunctional Spaces - Spaces that adapt to multiple uses like a cafe and a post-pilates relaxation area show a versatile approach to urban planning.
3. Sustainable Material Use - Incorporating materials such as cork flooring presents opportunities for eco-friendly design in commercial spaces.
Industry Implications
1. Interior Design - The trend of retro aesthetics is opening up new possibilities for designers specializing in themed interiors.
2. Cafe and Restaurant - Cafes that integrate unique design elements can attract more loyal customer bases by offering distinct and memorable dining environments.
3. Commercial Real Estate - Converting old buildings into multifunctional and stylish spaces can increase their value and appeal to diverse tenant types.
