Los Angeles based Studio AR&D created a new weathered steel guardhouse for a neighborhood in Palm Springs. The structure was built with cantilevers that were made to form a roof over a large boulder to make a parking spot. The desert Palisades Guardhouse is a security checkpoint for the newly built residential area that offers expansive views of the Chino Canyon.
The design team decided to use weathered steel to give the exterior a rusted look to blend into the surrounding desert landscape. The most prominent feature of the steel guardhouse is the large slanted roof, giving the structure a one of a kind, modern form. The interior has a mail room, bathroom and a sitting area, creating a comfortable space for security employees to work in.
Studio AR&D's new steel guardhouse was created to serve as a security building, but offers a new form of unique architecture.
