Snøhetta, in partnership with Chinese studio ECADI, reveals the visuals for the proposed Shanghai Grand Opera House which features a strikingly elegant spiral staircase roof.
The establishment is envisioned to "provide a major new cultural landmark for the biggest city in China." The design of the facade is kept glazed and minimalist, however, the helical addition definitely creates an agreeable and interesting juxtaposition. The spiraling stairs connect "the upper levels of the building with a riverside plaza."
The Shanghai Grand Opera House is designed in such a way that it maximizes the opportunity for open public spaces and interaction. The cultural hub will be open 24 hours a day and the spiral staircase roof will surely be a point of interest to locals and travelers.
