German artist Carsten Höller has set out to explore the emotional ties between humans and plants in a spiral installation that is scheduled to be built in the courtyard of Palazzo Strozzi in Florence, Italy. The art piece consists of two slides, intertwining in a double helix-like structure. Each participant will be handed a plant and allowed to slide down with it in one of the 20 meter-high tubes. The interactive spiral installation will explore the way plants respond and mirror human emotions.
Carsten Höller's double helix will also double as a scientific experiment, since participants are encouraged to go to a laboratory in the basement after their experience. Scientists will test the plants and figure out if the botanic organisms have picked up the person's emotions.
